Certass Compliance and Quality Assurance

23rd April 2025 - By Danelle Vanstone

Following some of the recent discussion in the Certass Members Only Forum, The Certass Technical Team wanted to provide a bit more context around Certass compliance procedures and how our quality assurance checks are carried out.

From Certass Technical:

Membership in any Competent Person Scheme requires quality monitoring of registered installations. Consequently, Member Installers must follow a compliance regime to ensure ongoing conformity with Scheme Rules and building regulations at the time of installation.

To achieve this, Certass carries out periodic random assessments and contacts consumers of registered installations to inspect completed work.

Consumers are informed, in bold text, on the front page of the issued Building Regulation Compliance Certificate (BRCC):

“You may be contacted by a Certass Auditor to inspect your installation as part of our quality assurance processes……”

Our auditors perform these inspections randomly, working in various locations, on different days, and at different times. They may reach out to consumers via phone, text, email, or by knocking on their door if they are in the vicinity. Our Auditors will have full details of the installation to validate their identity.

Participation is voluntary, and homeowners can refuse if they feel uncomfortable or unsure. It may be useful if you inform the homeowner that they might be contacted for audit and that if the Auditor contacts them, they will have the full installation details.

Additionally, if you have not registered any installations, Certass will contact you directly to conduct an in-progress inspection of work currently being undertaken.

Certass members may not always be aware of inspections being carried out on their work, especially if no issues are reported by our auditors. However, if any findings are reported, you will be contacted to resolve any issues or provide feedback.
