Warning - Publishing Fraud
A number of our members have been contacted by a 'publishing company'
purporting to be from the police publishing department (or from one of the
other emergency services). This company states that it is preparing a book
on rogue traders in conjunction with the police and asks our member if they
would like to advertise in the book. The details of the actual publication
referred to may vary but the gist of it will be similar to the one referred
to above.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE INTERESTED.
Ask for their name and address first and then tell them you believe that
this is a scam and that you are going to contact the police and trading standards.
This should make them go away!
If you express any interest at all they will invoice you for £400 to £500
and will threaten you with court action if you do not pay. If subsequently
you tell them to remove any unauthorised advert they will charge you a cancellation
fee of £400 to £500.
If you have already been approached and threatened or billed in this way
and you have not already contacted Certass please do so immediately so that
we can pass on the details to the police for action.
Details of similar scams may be found by clicking this link to the Merseyside
Police Publishing Fraud section of their website.
